12Lady Ubuntu Bowl White on White

The Ubuntu Bowl is the signature product of Zizamele Ceramics. The African version of the friendship bowl, each of these bowls is wheel thrown from stoneware clay with skill and care.   Twelve hand-modelled African clay figures arranged in a circle hold hands around the rim of the bowl. They wear their traditional headscarves and some have their babies tied to their backs in typical African fashion.

The elegant white glaze will compliment any interior, neutral or otherwise. “UMUNTU ngumuntu ngabantu” is a complex Nguni word that means “the belief in a universal bond of sharing that connects all humanity.”   Or in English,  “I am what I am because of who we all are."   In Africa, the definition of an individual is community-based and not individualist. The Ubuntu bowls with their strong African women holding hands in a spirit of Ubuntu, represent this philosophy.
