3Lady Ubuntu Bowl Cornflower Blue

This is the signature product of Zizamele Ceramics. The African version of the friendship bowl, each of these bowls is wheel thrown from stoneware clay with skill and care.  

Painted with cornflower blue glaze, the hand-modelled clay lady figures face one another as if in joyful conversation and in a spirit of unity. They wear their traditional headscarves and have their babies tied to their backs in typical African fashion.

“UMUNTU ngumuntu ngabantu” It is a complex Nguni word that means “the belief in a universal bond of sharing that connects all humanity.”   “I am what I am because of who we all are."  

In Africa, the definition of an individual is community-based and not individualist. The Ubuntu bowls with their women holding hands in a spirit of Ubuntu, represent this philosophy.
